Community Development

  • Being a Good Neighbour

In March we ran a series on Being a Good Neighbour, what better time than any is it to be a good neighbour? We would love to recommend the Neighbour Day website to anyone who is feeling like it would be a great idea to help out the people living around and are wondering how to do that. People who are physically isolating themselves don’t need to socially isolate themselves, in fact it is a very important time to connect with people and not allow ourselves to socially isolate, on the website there are plenty of great ideas on how to connect with others and also to simply be encouraged. Stay healthy! Wash your hands! Stay connected!

  • What is Community Development?

Community development ministry exists for people within the Yarra Glen and surrounding community, to help all members of the community reach their potential. This ministry is expandable and can bring new programs and service to the community as needs arise.

Currently the projects that Heartland is undertaking are:

    Reluncheonships

Every first Sunday of the month Heartland shares a meal together at each others homes, rather than meeting at the Memorial Hall. On these Sunday’s people offer to host and a few guests are invited around for a meal, have a catch up and a short Bible study discussion. Reluncheonships are designed to build relationships among the current Heartland community and provides a welcoming environment for friends. If you are planning on visiting on a 1st Sunday please contact us to join a Reluncheonship meal.

    Community Events

Heartland has been organising community events since 2006. Our regular community events are the Yarra Glen Carols by Candlelight and the Pop Up Clothes Swap.

    Courses

Courses are a great way to develop peoples skills and relationships, when people have the opportunity to broaden their skill set they make theirs and others lives better. Courses will be open to all people in our community and will run on a regular basis. Courses Heartland has previously run are No Apologies by Focus on the Family and Youth Alpha. Currently we are planning on running the Alpha Marriage Course for more information visit our Course section.
